History

When Dan Shamdasani graduated from Boston University with a business degree he knew what he wanted to do. After all fashion was in his DNA. He moved to New York and spent six years in his family's fashion business, getting his feet wet in everything from trend tracking in Europe, to sourcing and establishing business partnerships worldwide.

But like many of his Gen X peers it wasn't long before he was compelled to reshape the paradigms of his business world by striking out on his own. He and brother Vijay founded Public Clothing Company in 1993. Already young veterans of a family operation, the two managed to find success by marrying two concepts: fundamental best practices like deep sourcing, on-target delivery, and on-trend fashion with non-traditional and progressive management strategies. They aspired to eclipse the old ways and deliver better products and services to the customer base. And it worked.

Headquartered in New York's garment center the company made investments in computer software and hardware, recognizing quickly that keeping pace with technology was a competitive requirement. The company quickly established a global network of production facilities, even building its own offshore sample-making and laundering facility.

PCC's investments and global strategy paid dividends quickly. A reputation for on-trend product, vast sourcing capabilities, and outstanding delivery solidified its position in the market.

Today PCC is an aggregator of branded fashion and includes French Cuff, the soon-to-be-relaunched Generra, as well as licenses like Perry Ellis Womenswear, and Riders by Lee Jeans. Additionally the company serves as a private label partner with virtually every major US retailer, covering all distribution channels.
